Along the way he received numerous commendations, including a Life Saving medal, and was named Police Officer of the Year in 1992. In September 2001, he was promoted to Sergeant. Chief LeDuff’s career has been filled with notable honors and achievements including being named 1983-Law Enforcement Officer of the Year, 1990-Jaycees Officer of the Year, 1994-176th FBI Nat’l Academy Class Speaker, Beacon Award, Member of Cambridge Who’s Who, US Attorney’s Middle District Man of Distinction Award. He attended the 176th session of the FBI National Academy in 1994 and became the first attendee from Louisiana to be elected President of his class.
Throughout his career, LeDuff obtained instructor certifications in a number of police specialties and devoted more time to training police officers throughout south Louisiana in topics such as defensive tactics, tactical driving and racial diversity. LeDuff eventually left motorcycles to become the head instructor at the Training Academy in November 2002.
LeDuff is a graduate of Port Allen High School and attended Northeastern Louisiana University and the University of Southwestern Louisiana. He and his wife Kasandra have a son, Kelly and daughter-in-law, Shannon.
Jeff LeDuff achieved his lifelong dream when he was named Chief of Police on February 24, 2005. Chief LeDuff is the first African American Police Chief for the City of Baton Rouge. He leads his department and this Community with obvious compassion and dedication to protecting our citizens.
