Combating childhood obesity is imperative to the Baton Rouge Chapter of The Links, Incorporated, and as such the chapter donated over $11,000 to ExxonMobil YMCA to fund scholarships for low-income youth to attend The Links Boot Camp.
Through this boot camp kids were able to take advantage of swimming lessons, nutrition classes, and the basics of strength and cardiovascular conditioning for children in their age group. They engaged in fun, safe and suitable physical activities while learning about nutrition and healthy lifestyles. The Links donation enabled over 140 kids to participate in the boot camp.
Additionally, the Baton Rouge Chapter of The Links, Inc. also donated over 100 pairs of flip-flops to the kids in the program. The chapter was chosen as one of the charities to receive and distribute the flip-flops from Soles4Souls through the Million Dollar Round Table Foundation.
With a laser focus on combating childhood obesity, the Baton Rouge Chapter remains committed educating youth on the importance of exercise and healthy eating. We see this as not only necessary, considering the childhood obesity crisis in America, but potentially life saving.
